Diversity and physiology of polyhydroxyalkanoate-producing and-degrading strains in microbial mats

Abstract

Photosynthetic microbial mats are sources of microbial diversity and physiological strategies that regulate biogeochemical cycles. In this study, microbial diversity was surveyed at a hypersaline mat from the Ebro Delta (NE Spain) along a salinity gradient from brackish to hypersaline conditions, using clone libraries of the 16S rRNA gene and the 18S rRNA gene.
