Emerging Diversity within Chrysophytes, Choanoflagellates and Bicosoecids Based on Molecular Surveys

Abstract

In recent years, a substantial amount of data on aquatic protists has been obtained from culture-independent molecular surveys. This data, combined with the use of new molecular tools, is beginning to shape our understanding of the ecology and evolution of these organisms. In this review, we highlight some of the most significant discoveries in aquatic protist ecology from the past decade, and briefly describe the methodologies used to obtain them.
