Universal taxonomic frameworks have been critical tools to structure the fields of botany, zoology, and microbiology. However, no standardized ranking system exists for protists. Here we propose UniEuk, a community-curated, open-access reference taxonomic framework for all eukaryotes, with a particular emphasis on protists.
