My interest in genomics comes from my fascination with how much we can learn about living organisms through their genetic information. During my Bachelor’s thesis at the Institute of Human Genetics in Lübeck, I implemented a bioinformatics pipeline for analyzing gene expression from bulk RNA-sequencing data. This was my first deeper experience with bioinformatics and made me want to explore the field further, leading me to pursue a Master’s in Bioinformatics at the University of Hamburg.

During my Master’s, I became more interested in how bioinformatics can be used to analyze biological data and help answer biological questions. At the same time, I developed a growing interest in biodiversity and environmental questions, especially in how climate change affects ecosystems. This combination of interests eventually brought me to the del Campo Lab, where I am now doing my Master’s thesis. My project extends the RACCOON pipeline to detect, reconstruct, and classify complete rRNA operons from coral holobiont metagenomes.
